From the milk to the cheese/ Dal latte al formaggio May 15, 2010
In un piccolo laboratorio caseario si ricavano dal latte alcuni prodotti tipici : formaggio, mozzarelle, scamorze, ricotta.
In a little cheese factory they make from the milk some typical products : cheese, mozzarelle, scamorze, ricotta!

Typical Palms / Palme tipiche March 29, 2010
Un tempo era tradizione, nel nostro paese, preparare per la Domenica delle Palme, palme particolari intrecciando le foglie di ulivo. Con le nuove generazioni questa tradizione è andata perdendosi e viene mantenuta solo in qualche piccola frazione. La nostra maestra Giuseppina ha portato a scuola dei rami di ulivo e ci ha preparato delle palme usando quell’antica tecnica. Ha fatto così:

Ha tagliato da alcuni rametti di ulivo tante coppie di foglioline
-
Ha preso altri rametti e li ha privati delle foglie
-
Ha intrecciato sui rametti nudi con maestria le coppie di foglie preparate prima e le ha fissate ben bene alle estremità
-
Ha decorato tutto con nastrini dorati e.. le nostre palme erano finalmente pronte!
Per quest’anno abbiamo solo guardato, l’anno prossimo le prepareremo noi!
Once upon a time preparing, for the Palm Sunday, particular palms interlacing the olive leaves was a tradition, in our town. With the new generations this tradition has been loosing and is kept only in some little village. Our teacher Giuseppina brought at school some little olive branches and prepared for us some palms using that ancient technique. She made in this way:

She cut from some little olive branches many couples of leaves
-
She got other little branches and deprived them of the leaves
-
She interlaced on the naked little branches the couples of leaves prepared first with skill and fixed them well at the ends.

She decorated everything with golden strings and … finally our palms were ready!
This year we only looked at her, next year we’ll prepare them for ourselves!

The Befana’s legend / La leggenda della Befana January 15, 2010
In our tradition there is a legend about the Befana . It tells that the three Kings, coming from the East and on the way to adore Baby Jesus, lost the way and asked an old lady to get them to the holy Infant and bring Him their presents. She refused to accompany them, then repent, prepared a basket of sweets for Baby Jesus, and run outside to reach the Kings but didn’t find them.Therefore she stopped in each house on her way and left a sweet for each child hoping to find Baby Jesus. From then, every year, she goes around the world bringing sweets and and presents to all the children to have forgiveness for her fault.
Nella nostra tradizione c’è una leggenda sulla Befana. Racconta che i tre Re Magi, arrivando dall’Oriente diretti ad adorare Gesù Bambino, persero la strada e chiesero ad una vecchia di portarli dal Santo Bambino per offrirgli i loro doni. Ella rifiutò di accompagnarli , poi si pentì, preparò un cesto di dolciumi per Gesù Bambino e corse fuori per raggiungere i Re Magi ma non li trovò. Perciò si fermò in ogni casa sulla sua strada e lasciò un dolce per ogni bambino sperando di trovare il piccolo Gesù. Da allora, ogni anno, gira per il mondo portando dolci e regali a tutti i bambini per farsi perdonare la sua mancanza.
