The Befana’s legend / La leggenda della Befana January 15, 2010

In our tradition there is a legend about the Befana . It tells that the three Kings, coming from the East and on the way to adore Baby Jesus, lost the way and asked  an old lady to get them to the holy Infant and bring Him their presents. She refused to accompany them, then repent, prepared a basket of sweets for Baby Jesus, and run outside to reach the Kings but didn’t find them. Therefore she stopped in each house on her way and left a sweet for each child hoping to find Baby Jesus. From then, every year, she goes around the world bringing sweets and and presents to all the children to have forgiveness for her fault.

Here’s how our children represented the legend / Ecco come i nostri bambini hanno rappresentato la leggenda:

Ciao Amici! Ogni anno, il 6 Gennaio, noi aspettiamo la Befana. E’ una gentile e simpatica vecchietta che scende giù dal camino e lascia dolci e regali ai bambini buoni e pezzi di carbone a quelli cattivi.
Hello friends! Every year , on the 6th of January, we wait for the Befana. She is a kind and nice old lady who comes down the chimney and leaves sweets and presents to good boys and pieces of coal to the bad ones.

Describing Christmas/ Descrivendo il Natale

Filed under: Christmas — Gina @ 6:57 pm
Tutti insieme i nostri bambini hanno provato a creare, in Italiano, delle similitudini sul Natale che richiamano alcune nostre tradizioni/All together our childen tried to create , in Italian, some similes about Christmas that remind some traditions of ours:

Il Natale è / Christmas is:

rosso come la Stella di Natale
as red as the Christmas Flower

buono come i “Panzerotti con le castagne”                                                                                                                                   as good as the “Chestnuts pancakes

giallo come la stella cometa
as yellow as the comet star

bianco come la neve                                                                                                                                              as white as the snow

santo come Gesù Bambino
as holy as Baby Jesus

luminoso e colorato come l’albero di Natale
as brigth and coloured as the Christmas Tree

dolce come il Panettone
as sweet as the Panettone

Rhymes and Christmas Cards

Filed under: Christmas — philjohnson @ 5:45 pm

The children have been writing nice words about their parents for their Christmas cards using similes. in English when we say someone is like someone or something else it is called a simile. these poems are full of similes.

This is what they wrote :
You are as caring as my teddy bear
You are as delicious and as creamy as vanilla ice cream
You are as brigth as Tenerife
To me you are as brilliant as JLS
You are as tasty as fish and chips
You are as bright and as sunny as Florida
I love you more than my Wii
You are as sweet as coca cola
You are as cute as a kitten
You are as beautiful as a rose
You are as wonderful as Drayton Manor Park
You are as tasty as strawberry cake
You are as nice as chocolate
You are as sunny as the sun
You are as warm as a robe
You are as red as a rose
You are as red as Rudolf’s nose
You are better than my puppy
You are as beautiful as bluebells
You are as brigth and sunny as Spain
You are beautiful as a glittery diamond ring
You are as wonderful as Cheryl Cole.
