Easter in Romania April 16, 2009

Filed under: Easter — LL @ 8:54 pm

This year, the Orthodox Easter is on the 19th April, one week after the Catholic Easter.
The totality of the Orthodox life centres around Easter, as it marks the resurrection of Jesus.
Here is some useful Easter vocabulary in Romanian:
Easter – Paste
Happy Easter! – Paste fericit!
Easter eggs – oua de Paste
Jesus Christ – Iisus Hristos

We should all have Easter at the same date next year on Sunday April the 4th, 2010 and the following year too on Sunday,April the 24th 20011 and afterwards dates diverge once again. If remember well, it depends on the dates of full theorical Julian ( for Orthodox Christians) and Gregorian (for catholics) moons. It is a bit complicated this!
Once again, lots of “goodies” to be eaten: eggrolls, delicious cakes… I will definitely go to visit Romania either at Easter or at Xmas.
Happy Easter to you and your kids. Bonnes Fêtes de Pâques.
    Paste fericit!
